It has now been over 10 weeks since the Legal Services Board launched their consultation document regarding the regulation of the will writing industry.
The deadline for responses to the proposal is the 16th July. The Society is in the final stages of putting their response together. We have listened to feedback received from members and also from our Executive Council.
In the summer, following the conclusion on this document and the consideration of the responses that are received a further consultation document that may include the full texts of a draft recommendation to the Lord Chancellor, impact assessments and any guidance on high-level regulatory arrangements will be published.
If the LSB conclude that Will Writing does need to become a reserved activity then they will write a final report to the Lord Chancellor in the winter recommending that he amends the list of reserved activities.
Over the past 10 weeks the Society has met with the Legal Services Board and the organisations that have put their names forward to regulate the industry.
The purpose of these meetings have been to ascertain the intentions and plans that each organisation has.
These meetings have proved very useful in building relationships and to ensure that the interest of Society members is kept at the forefront of any regulation.
The Society will continue to keep members up to date with any regulation news. You can rest assured that we are working hard to ensure regulation will be manageable for all members, from sole traders to large organisations.
