Can you get a will done at home?

Instructing a legal professional at home is perhaps the most convenient route to getting a legally valid will. We will visit you at a convenient time to understand your circumstances before drafting your will for approval and sending it to you within two working days (where possible).

Why choose a home visit service?

The most obvious benefit of our home visit wills is that we can provide advice face-to-face. For many of our clients, this is hugely reassuring and enables them to ask questions in a comfortable and relaxed environment.

A home visit may also be more convenient than online will writing services. For example, you may work from home or be confined to your home. Perhaps your busy schedule doesn’t allow time for you to visit our office. Whatever your reason, we are more than happy to make an appointment to see you at your home address.

What is discussed at a home visit?

During the visit, we will discuss the following details:

• The size and value of your estate, including all assets.
• Your executors. These are the individuals who will carry out your wishes after you’ve gone.
• Your chosen guardians if you have minor children under 18.
• Your main beneficiaries (and second-level beneficiaries in the case that your first choices are unable to inherit.)
• Personal gifts that you may wish to leave to friends and family. It’s important to list these in detail, e.g. “my oil painting of Putney Bridge”, so that there’s no confusion for your executors.
• Charity donations you may wish to make.

We conduct home visits for both single wills and mirror wills. During the meeting, we can also offer advice on the various trusts available to you. If you own your own home, in your sole name or jointly with your spouse/partner, we can guide you on how best to deal with that in your will(s) to ensure that your wishes are carried out after your death.

Our home visit will service

Here is how the process works:

1. Initial enquiry: Call us to request a callback on 01305 774786, fill out our contact form, or email us. Following your enquiry, we will contact you to arrange a convenient time and date for our first appointment.
2. First appointment: During our home visit, we will gather all the necessary information to write your will, including your family situation, your assets, and your beneficiaries. We can discuss the various types of trusts available to you, any tax considerations, and advise on the best way to protect your family’s future.
3. Will-writing: Following our call, we will draw up a will that reflects your wishes and needs. We can post or email it to you, whatever you prefer.
4. First draft: You will receive the draft documents for review and approval. We aim to deliver them to you within two working days of the home visit. This is your chance to ask questions and request alterations. For added reassurance, we can supply helpful guides to explain any trusts or legal terms included.
5. Approval: Once you are happy with your will, you can let us know by phone or email.
6. Signing: Your will must be signed in person according to the signing instructions and in the presence of two witnesses. Once approved, we will print and bind your will and make a second appointment to deliver it by hand if possible. We can also act as one of your legal witnesses if required. In most cases, the other witness is a friend, colleague, or neighbour. If we can’t be there in person, we post the will to you with full signing instructions.

We can also recommend the services of other experts, such as financial advisors if you wish. We also offer a will-store service to ensure your will remains safe, which we can discuss during our meeting.

How much does a home visit wills service cost?

What documents are needed?

To get the most from our appointment, it’s very beneficial to gather the necessary information and documents, including:

• A form of identification and proof of address
• The Land Registry title document of your property
• Your existing will (if applicable)
• The full names and contact details of the people you wish to appoint as executors (to carry out your wishes) and guardians (if you have children under 18).
• A list of your assets, including property, savings, investments, business interests, and any valuable personal belongings.
• The names and contact details of the people or organisations (e.g., charities) you wish to leave your estate or specific gifts to.
