This is a common term used in Will Writing and simply means your Grandchildren, if they are not referred to by name then many wills use a piece of legal Latin that adequately ensures that your Granchildren will inherit if one of your children pre-deceases you.
the Latin term used is “per stirpes” and literally means “by branch” but in legal terms means that the inheritance follows the bloodline “branch” of the family.
As an example if you make a will to benefit your 3 children, Ann, Bill & Claire but by the time you die Bill has pre-deceased you.
If Bill had 2 children of his own, your grandchildren, then Ann will still recive her 1/3rd of your estate, Claire will still recieve her 1/3rd of your estate and Bill’s 2 children will share Bill’s 1/3rd of your estate using the “per stirpes” clause.
