October the 8th 2012 saw Anthony Townsend, Cheif Executive of the Solicitors Regulation Authority, give a presentation to the 16th Annual Conference of the Society of Will Writers at the Abbey Hotel in Redditch.
Mr Townsend gave a good account of himself, his background in the expansion of the regulation of Dentists to include Dental Nurses etc. which forms a reasonable parallel with his current role and the proposed regularion of Will Writers by the Legal Services Board, whom the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) are applying to to become one of the approved Regulators.
It appears from Mr Townsend’s presentation that the regulation of Will Writers will be dealt with using outcomes-focused regulation, trying to only regulate when it is in the public interest to do so and using a risk-based approach.
We, here at MW Legal Services, welcome the onset of regulation and hope that the SRA’s application to become one of the approved regulators of the will writing industry is successful as they hold close to their core values similar issues as we do in our dealing with the consumer, all things are to be done to the benefit and satisfaction of the client and in their best interest.
