It’s always very important to reflect in your will the accurate relationship that a person mentioned in the will has to you.
Of particular importance which is often overlooked is a person who has been, for example, acting as a father to a child of his new wife that is not his own, this situation may have been in place for many years and so the child is referred to as Son or Daughter. However, if he is not the bloodline father or the child has not been adopted by the new husband then it is only right, in the will, to refer to the child as the correct relationship of stepson or stepdaughter.
Many of the most common relationships that I write into wills are listed here but, if the person’s relationship to you is too distant to be included then no one gets offended by being called “friend”. If the relationship is that distant then the accuracy in the will is less important.
